Abstract

In this article I want to show how issues of the body have been neglected in social science. The gender concept, which has revolutionied feminist theory, is not adequate to explain identity processes. I mean that some theories of the french psychoanalysis have attracted many feminist researchers, because of a theoretical vacuum in theories of social constructionism. Instead of a polarization I will assert a dialectic between theories of social construtionism and essentialism.
